Kildeer Principal's Messsage

A Look Back...
Professional Learning Communities Presentation~This week 35 educators from Kaneland, IL visited Kildeer to learn how our school functions as a Professional Learning Community. Professional Learning Communities focus their work around the following four critical questions:
  • What do we want students to know and be able to do?
  • How will we know if students learned the concepts?
  • What will we do for students who have not learned the concepts?
  • What do we do for students who have already mastered the concepts
Kildeer teachers shared how they routinely collaborate with their grade level team and colleagues across the school and district to answer each of these essential questions. They also highlighted how they use formal and informal data to determine students’ prior knowledge and what they learned. Our visitors were extremely impressed with the daily work of Kildeer educators, our school and District 96. The day was a true celebration of the learning that occurs in our school everyday!

Halloween at Kildeer ~
Parade Parties, and Parking: Weather permitting, our Cougar Halloween Parade will begin at 1:30 p.m. We ask that all spectators remain in the front parking lot of our building during the parade and that you do not cover your faces with masks while viewing the parade; this is for the safety of our students.  If it's a rainy day, we'll parade inside only, and the event will be for staff and students ONLY. Parents pre-scheduled to work the parties will be let into the classrooms at 1:50 pm (Early Birds) and then at 2:00 pm the remainder of our room parent volunteers will enter to begin the parties. All volunteers must wear a printed badge from the office.

We know how very busy our parking lot is during the parade and parties. We invite you to pull up to the front door and drop party supplies at school prior to 12:20 p.m.  We'll store them in the small gym until you arrive later in the day. Our building is closed to visitors during the parade.

Party volunteers, as it has been communicated to you previously, you have a choice of leaving the building at 2:45 pm or after 3:15 pm  in order to provide students with safe access to our buses. If you wish to take home your child who is not in the classroom you are hosting, those students MUST bring a note to school in the morning.
  • If you are leaving at 2:45, ask your child to meet you in the small gym.
  • If you are leaving at 3:15, ask your child to meet in his/her sibling's classroom.
This year you may park in our bus area, but please note, to park there you must be leaving at the 2:45 slot, as our buses need those spaces.  This is incredibly important that you follow this, or our buses will not be able to pull in.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Costumes:
As you are shopping for or crafting the perfect costume, please keep a few things in mind for a school appropriate costume.
  • "Kid friendly" in ease of changing: Children come to school in their regular clothes and must change into their costumes independently after lunch. Any hair color or makeup must be applied before coming to school, and must not be a learning distraction (minimal).
  • "Kid friendly" for content: No weapons (real or fake!), blood, super scariness, or general ickiness should be a part of the costume. Any hair color or makeup must be simple and should not distract anyone from learning for the day. Also, we assume all costumes will follow our school dress code, meaning no bare tummies or inappropriate clothing (content or fit). Masks following all of the aforementioned guidelines may be worn for the parade, however, not on the bus or throughout the school day.
Thank you for all you do to make this such a special day for all of us.

Cougar Communities Spirit Day ~ Next week all classrooms will spend one half hour buddied up with another classroom as we build relationships across the school, forming an even more supportive Kildeer community.   This is cross grade level, so that older and younger students "buddy up" and focus on a lesson together around social emotional learning.  Next week we will particularly focusing on "empathy" and "the golden rule".  We'll share more around this next week, and provide parent links for you to follow-up at home with your child if you would like.  To celebrate our first Cougar Communities buddy classroom lesson, it is Kildeer Spirit Day on Friday, October 26th.  Wear spirit wear or blue and gold!  If you ordered Sprit Wear from our PTO, it is scheduled to come in after this date (early November).  Your child can wear blue and gold to participate, and many children do this on any spirit day throughout the year.  Thank you!
