A Look Back...

Angry THIRDS!
What an exciting third grade musical we had that was completely written, composed, and of course, produced, by our very own Mr. Tatar!  Our third grade students had a blast and put on quite a show with their Angry Bird themed show.  Thank you to Mr. Tatar, Mr. Emde, the third grade teachers, and our talented third grade students for giving us such an amazing show.  Thank you also to the many parents who pitched-in to make the ADORABLE Angry Bird hats.  These really set our show off and we so appreciate your several hours of gluing feathers!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!
All week students have enjoyed celebrating Dr. Seuss. It was topped off on Friday with an all school event where we paired older and younger students to read Dr. Seuss books together. Students were encouraged to wear green or Dr. Seuss themed clothing. Check back next week for pictures!

Kildeer Receives Academic Excellence Award ~ 2011 Honor Roll
Congratulations Kildeer students, parents, and teachers! We have once again received the Illinois State Board of Education Academic Excellence Award. Only 438 schools across Illinois earned this award for 2011. To earn the award, elementary schools must meet the following criteria:
  • Attain Annual Yearly Progress in 2010 and 2011
  • 90% of students must meet or exceed state standards in both reading and math for the three most recent school years
To learn more information about the Academic Excellence Award, please visit the Illinois Honor Roll website.

A Look Ahead...

ISAT Testing Begins for Grades 3, 4, & 5
It is always important for our students to have ample rest and healthy nutrition. With ISAT testing starting next Wednesday, the importance of these two healthy life style choices cannot be overstated. ISAT testing can be demanding for students so giving them a head start on the day feeling well rested and energized with a healthy breakfast will certainly put them in the right frame of mind. As always, if you have any questions about ISAT testing, please contact your child's teacher.

Learning Center News
We count on our Keepin' Up With Kildeer parent meetings to help us know what parents think would be helpful. Thank you to our parents for the suggestion to give an overview of the resources available on our Learning Center website. These resources change throughout the year as we find more for kids and families to take advantage of, so check out our Learning Center link from the Kildeer website often. Mrs. Schumer put together an at-a-glance overview to help you know all that's available. Be sure to check it out under "Forms & Information" by clicking on the link at the top of this page, or below. Thank you Mrs. Schumer!

5th Grade Parents...Middle School is Coming!
It's hard to believe that the end of our school year is nearing and will be here before we know it! For our 5th grade students and their parents, this is an exciting time. Understandably, it can also be a time that provokes a little anxiety if you've never had children go through the middle school before. Opportunities are coming your way to help ease this transition and answer all of your questions:
  • 6th Grade Parent Orientation Evening is coming up at Woodlawn Middle School on Monday, April 23rd, at 7:00 p.m. It will be in the Woodlawn gym. This was revised, as there was a conflict with our 5th Grade Musical.
  • Join Woodlawn Principal Greg Grana, Assistant Principal Chris Murphy, and me at our next Keepin' Up With Kildeer parent/Principal meeting to have an opportunity to ask questions and have an informal conversation around the transition to middle school. This is on April 13th from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Kildeer.  Please help us to determine the appropriate space to meet by emailing your R.S.V.P. to Mrs. Gioviano at ggioviano@kcsd96.org or giving us a call at 847-634-3243.
  • 6th Grade Placement Information: Please click here for information about 6th grade placement for the 2012-2013 school year
