A Look Back...
We have quite a few fun highlights from this week to share with you. I'll start with a precious fall wish for you from Ms. Fryer's first grade class. Enjoy!

The week started with a visit from storyteller/author, Dorothy Washington. Dorothy told lively, animated stories that held the imaginations of our students captive and had them rolling with laughter! Thank you so much to our PTO and the community support for bringing these Cultural Arts event experiences to our students. It's an absolute treat! Mrs. Washington even provided our Learning Center with two c.d.'s of her storytelling magic for our students to continue to enjoy. Take a look at how much the children loved their time with her.

On Wednesday we all had fun with the Student Council event, Sports Day!

The Second Grade students have been learning about goods and services and the people who provide them. They distinguished between producers and consumers and learned ways that people can have both of these roles. Learning about factories, work and income were other concepts covered in this unit. As the culminating activity, the second grade transformed our cafeteria into a bookmark factory where the students applied their information that they learned. Ask your child what important job he/she performed on the assembly line. The students learned how important it is to cooperate in order to be able to complete the work efficiently and produce a good product!
Ready to go!

Busy at work!
The finished product.
Thumbs-up for a hard day's work!

Today we had our second Keepin' Up With Kildeer parent meeting.  The topic was Cougar Pride and Social Emotional Learning.  Our social worker, Miss Compobasso, and 2nd grade teacher, Miss Flickinger, joined us.  We discussed our school's common language, structures, supports, and the work we are doing to meet the social emotional learning needs of children.  Thank you to all parents who participated in this conversation.  We were very excited about the supportive feedback and ideas you brought to the table today.  These meetings are a wonderful way for us to partner together in our work.  I'm looking forward to our next meeting on December 2nd!

A Look Ahead...
It's Here! Monday's Halloween Details!
Parking for Halloween events at Twin Orchard Country Club
Kildeer will run a shuttle service to/from Twin Orchard and Kildeer School from 1:00 pm. - 4:00 p.m. This is a great way to enjoy the parade and/or parties without worrying about parking. Whether you're volunteering for the parties, or coming to watch the parade, please take advantage of the shuttle - Old McHenry Rd. is not the ideal place to park during the traffic congestion in our area . We ask that you park in the center of Twin Orchard's lot.
Parade
The parade for families will begin around 1:30. Weather permitting, we'll parade outside the building and parents/families are welcome to watch IN THE FRONT PARKING LOT. The kids will be able to see each other's costumes during an indoor parade in the gym before we head outside. If the weather doesn't cooperate (EEK!) the students will parade inside the building for each other and, for obvious security reasons, an INDOOR PARADE will be for STAFF AND STUDENTS ONLY.
Classroom Parties
Parties begin at 2:00 p.m., and only pre-arranged parent volunteers with badges will be invited into the classrooms. Please feel free to drop off all party items/food/supplies in the morning. Bus lanes will be blocked off to cars during the festivities.
Costume Reminders
  • "Kid friendly" in ease of changing: Children come to school in their regular clothes and must change into their costumes independently after lunch. Any hair color or makeup must be applied before coming to school.
  • "Kid friendly" for content: No masks, weapons (real or fake!), blood, super scariness, or general ickiness should be a part of the costume. Any hair color or makeup must be simple and should not distract anyone from learning for the day. Also, we assume all costumes will follow our school dress code, meaning no bare tummies.

BEGINNING MONDAY, 10/31/11: New Procedure for Picking-Up Students in the Front of the Building From After-School Activities/Clubs

These instructions are for front lot pick up only (After School Sports, Chess Club, ASAP).  All others continue to use back parent pick-up procedure.
