A Look Back...
Fourth grade visited Ryerson Woods to continue their study of animal adaptations, food webs, and predator and prey. They had a lot of fun learning about the animals in our local environment. I'm so proud of our fourth graders for their outstanding behavior on the field trip and commend them for their prior learning, in order to make the most of this experience! Fourth Grade shows COUGAR PRIDE! Take a peek below! At our Cougar Pride assembly this week we focused on rule number two, "Use Kind Words". Ask your child about the following information that was reviewed:
What are expected ways we should use kind words?
- Greet one another
- Please, thank you, you're welcome
- May I...
- Excuse me
- I'm sorry
- Recognize others with kindness and caring
What are unexpected ways to use our words?
- Name calling
- Put downs
- Leaving others out/ignoring
- Laughing and making fun of others
- Rude, disrespectful words or tone
- Spreading information, "Gossip"-Would you want it said about you? Even if it is true information, respect others' privacy and feelings.
We also discussed strategies around what to do when someone "dips" into somebody else's bucket. Dipping is from the story I read all grade levels, Have You Filled a Bucket Today, by Carol McCloud, mentioned in a previous Principal's Message. Ask your child about what it means to have someone dip into their bucket to have a dinner chat around the strategies we discussed. Some questions you may ask your child include:
- How does it feel when someone dips into your bucket? (Your child should mention something about feeling sad.)
- What do you do if you see someone "dipping"? (Don't join in, decide how to help, etc.)
- How can I avoid "dipping" with my words? (Understand how the other people feel, don't say things when you are upset, pause and take a break.)
- What should you do if you "dip" into someone else's bucket? (Sincerely apologize.)
These are great conversation starters for you to use with your child to support them with language and strategies when they encounter unexpected situations.
We Show Cougar Pride When We Give FIVE!
1. Follow directions
2. Use kind words
3. Keep my hands and feet to myself
4. Make safe choices
5. DO MY BEST!

Halloween Details!
Parking for Halloween events at Twin Orchard Country Club
Kildeer will run a shuttle service to/from Twin Orchard and Kildeer School from 1:00 pm. - 4:00 p.m. This is a great way to enjoy the parade and/or parties without worrying about parking. Whether you're volunteering for the parties, or coming to watch the parade, please take advantage of the shuttle - Old McHenry Rd. is not the ideal place to park during the traffic congestion in our area . We ask that you park in the center of Twin Orchard's lot.
Parade
The parade for families will begin around 1:30. Weather permitting, we'll parade outside the building and parents/families are welcome to watch IN THE FRONT PARKING LOT. The kids will be able to see each other's costumes during an indoor parade in the gym before we head outside. If the weather doesn't cooperate (EEK!) the students will parade inside the building for each other and, for obvious security reasons, an INDOOR PARADE will be for STAFF AND STUDENTS ONLY.
Classroom Parties
Parties begin at 2:00 p.m., and only pre-arranged parent volunteers with badges will be invited into the classrooms. Please feel free to drop off all party items/food/supplies in the morning. Bus lanes will be blocked off to cars during the festivities.
Costume Reminders
- "Kid friendly" in ease of changing: Children come to school in their regular clothes and must change into their costumes independently after lunch. Any hair color or makeup must be applied before coming to school.
- "Kid friendly" for content: No masks, weapons (real or fake!), blood, super scariness, or general ickiness should be a part of the costume. Any hair color or makeup must be simple and should not distract anyone from learning for the day. Also, we assume all costumes will follow our school dress code, meaning no bare tummies.
