What a wonderful week, with the highlight being our Out of This World Book Fair along with the Ice Cream & Pizza Social on Wednesday! My family and I had a great time and loved meeting so many of you. Neither event is possible without amazing parent volunteers, and at Kildeer we're so grateful for all of their hard work and dedication.
I'm happy to report that this year's parent coffee, Keepin' Up With Kildeer, took place this morning. The goal of these parent/principal coffees is to build communication and share our perspectives across different topics. We spent our time this morning generating questions around several topics of interest to parents. I'll identify the focus for each future Keepin' Up With Kildeer meeting and dates very soon, so that you can make plans to attend any or all of the sessions that interest you. Thanks to the group that joined me this morning...I look forward to seeing more of you there in the future!
Cougar Cross Country Challenge
The Cougar Cross Country Challenge is coming up next week on the morning of Tuesday, September 27th. Please make sure that your child has gym shoes and a water bottle to enjoy this special day of fun and fitness! Students can also show their Cougar Pride by wearing Kildeer spirit wear or our school colors, blue and gold.
New this year, students in 3rd-5th grades will be using Google documents. Students have been assigned a google account and will be trained in how to use it. The mail portion of the account has been disabled. Students will login to their google account to create a document or powerpoint. The beauty of using google docs is that students can access their document, not only on any computer at school, but also at home. In addition, documents can be shared with the teacher and other students. This is exciting since it allows students to collaborate and work together......even if they are miles apart! If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Sarlitto, our technology integration specialist.

After School Assistance Program (ASAP)
Kildeer is excited to offer an After School Assistance Program (ASAP) to work with fourth and fifth grade students on homework, vocabulary, and/or concepts they may be having difficulty with to complete assignments independently. Your children will be working with Ms. Fell, our English Language Learner Teacher. Children do not need to be seeing Ms. Fell during the school day in order to participate in this after school program. Parents must provide transportation to pick up their child from school at 4:00 p.m. Please make sure to sign the permission slip each week (see Forms link below) and return no later than the day prior to each session. The first 15 slips received for each session will be able to attend. Details:
- 4th Grade: Wednesdays from 3:00-4:00 p.m., beginning on October 12th. Permission slips due on Tuesdays.
- 5th Grade: Thursdays from 3:00-4:00 p.m., beginning on October 13th. Permission slips due on Wednesdays.
Volunteers: Food Allergy Awareness Information
Kildeer continues to see an increase in students with life threatening food allergies. Policy was adopted December of 2010 for a Food Allergy Management Program along with guidelines. It is important that all of our school volunteers become aware of the D96 guidelines prior to event planning. Please click here to review and be sure to see page 5 of the document.
Parent Night: Understanding Your Child's New Report Card
As mentioned at Curriculum Night and a previous Principal's Message, the District is hosting a Parent Night to help parents learn about the new Standard's Based Report Cards for children this year. The night will be on October 20th at 6:30 p.m. in the Ivy Hall Large Gym. Ivy Hall is located at 1072 Ivy Hall Lane, Buffalo Grove.
