It is so important for your children to continue to read over the summer. There are many summer reading opportunities for them to enjoy. Go to Mrs. Schumer's website and click on the last link summer reading to find our district lists and log, Barnes and Noble reading program, Vernon Area Public Library summer book club, Scholastic Reading Contest, and a reading timer app. Also, go to 2012 student reading recommendations on Mrs. Schumer's website. Children at Kildeer each selected their favorite book from this year. The list is organized by the grade level the kids were in this year. Check out the list for your child's current year and next year as well.

It's also a great idea to keep a summer journal to continue to work on writing skills. Not only does it support writing development, but it's a fun way to ask children to make all the many activities you'll enjoy over the summer learning experiences. Dedicate a notebook just for this purpose, tucking it away during the school year, and each summer you'll look back and see the wonderful memories you've created and the progress your child has made.

Long Grove Art Fest ~ Mark your calendars for August 18th and 19th. This is our PTO's biggest fundraiser and is filled with fun, food, friends, and beautiful art~including canvas and framed works, photography, jewelry, and more.
