A Look Back...
Thank you to our PTO and parent support that brought another Cultural Arts assembly to Kildeer. The Super U! Challenge (Super YOU!) is an action-packed school assembly that promotes a supportive school environment by encouraging students to build positive character traits and identify (and stop!) unexpected behavior between one another. It’s all about challenging students to become their own “personal super heroes” and let their best traits shine! The interactive, game show format had the kids incredibly engaged and excited. It's such a treat to get to see their faces enjoying these times, while learning such a positive message. Thanks again for bringing this to us!
Wednesday night the district provided a parent night, Understanding Your Child's New Report Card. The evening provided parents with a deeper understanding behind the "why" of our new standards based report card. In addition, this was truly an evening of celebration. It was crystal clear that this new tool will provide parents and students much more clarity around what students know and are able to do. District teachers, including Kildeer teachers, Mrs. Kieser (3rd Grade) and Miss Jones (4th Grade), participated in the evening. Teachers celebrated how students "own" their learning through a deeper understanding about learning targets they are working towards. Students are able to set goals through the use of "I CAN" statements. Mrs. Kieser explained that "I CAN" statements are the targets put in student-friendly language that children use to set and monitor their own learning goals. Miss Jones, who participated in a field test for the new reporting tool for the last two years, spoke about how much more meaningful parent/teacher conferences are with the new report card in place. Parents come to the conference already understanding their child's strengths and areas for continued focus. Walking into the conference with this knowledge helps teachers and parents more effectively partner in the child's learning.
A Look Ahead...
The Foundation is seeking volunteers for the following committees:· Scholarship (first meeting December 8, 2011)· Capital Campaign· Golf Outing (August 6, 2012)· Recognition Dinner (January 20, 2012)· Planning Family VacationsIf you are interested in serving on any of these committees please contact Mrs. Rosenberg, Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent, at crosenberg@kcsd96.org, or Mrs. Chase, the Foundation President, at wwc11@aol.com or 847-537-9477.
I know that many families plan vacations around upcoming holidays. The District discourages families from extending family vacations beyond designated days off. As stated in the District handbook, students that take vacations that exceed ten consecutive school days are dropped from attendance rolls. Parents must re-enroll their child upon return. We believe that the learning that occurs every day in school is essential so we ask that you plan according to the school and district calendar. Your cooperation is appreciated as we work together to best educate your child!
