NEW THIS WEEK: 5th Grade Trade Show and Dr. Seuss Day

Cougar Pride Assembly!
We sent the children off to enjoy spring break with a bang today, ending our week with our March Cougar Pride Assembly.  Ask your child about perseverance, which was our focus of the assembly.  We also learned our new Cougar Pride song,  written by our wonderful Mrs. Fineman, and perfectly accompanied by Mr. Tatar.  There is even a dance to go along with it!  It goes like this...
Show five, show five, hands up for Cougar Pride,
It's what we practice everyday, five rules for our work and play,
Show five, show five, hands up for Cougar Pride!

Teacher Institute Day
Teachers throughout the District worked extremely hard at the Institute Day on Tuesday. The focus of the day was on reviewing our new reading targets that were implemented this year. As you may recall, these new learning targets originated from the Common Core, which is a set of proposed national targets developed by experts in the field of education. On Tuesday teachers had the opportunity to share how they instructed and assessed these targets this year. Grade level teams revised the targets to make them clearer and in certain instances they increased the rigor or altered when they would be taught next school year. The collaboration that occurred on Tuesday was truly exceptional! It was certainly a day well spent.
A Look Ahead...

Class List Process
If you didn't catch it, take a look at last week's message to learn about the class list process that we take very seriously at Kildeer. I welcome any insight you wish to share about your child’s strengths, needs, and learning style. I will take into consideration pertinent information about your child’s learning style and needs, received on or before FRIDAY, APRIL 27th, 2012. While we welcome your input, specific teacher requests will not be honored.  Please put your thoughts in writing and address them to me (Jenny Smith) either via hard copy letter or email jsmith@kcsd96.org.

Student Dress Code

As the weather warms up, please remember appropriate school dress as outlined in our Student Handbook:
4.12-e Standards for Student Dress. Students who are appropriately and comfortably dressed are able to focus on schoolwork more effectively. The following guidelines are enforced.   Cooperation by parents is appreciated.
1. Dress or appearance that provokes or distracts other students or otherwise causes a disruption to the educational process is prohibited.
2. Shoes must be worn at all times.
3. Clothing, jewelry, or accessories may not have writing or pictures
that advertise or advocate alcohol, drugs, tobacco, obscenity, violence, or gang activity.
4. Pants must be worn at the waistline.
5. Hats are allowed on designated hat days only.
6. Half shirts, cropped tops, spaghetti straps, and underwear or

sleepwear worn as outerwear are not acceptable.
7. Undergarments should not be visible.

8. With the exception of appropriate jewelry, no chains should be
worn.
Students who are in violation of the policy and rules of student dress code will be asked to comply with the rules by either changing to other attire that is available at school, or by having parents bring different clothes from home.
